Tigers Easily Defeat LeMoyne-Owen College in Exhibition

No. 14 Memphis Defeats LeMoyne-Owen 113-63 In Exhibition Thursday
Seven Tigers net double figures in the victory.

(Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the game. I was playing Mr. Mom with my two little girls, but I did watch some of the highlights on the news - boy that really gives a lot of insight............anyway, it sounds like the zone hurt the outside shooting. Obviously, LOC would probably lose to C-USA basement dwellers on a regular basis, so using their team to compare the Tigers is just plain wrong. Cal was disappointed LOC did play a zone because he wanted the young guys to work the motion offense. On WREG CBS affiliate, Cal said he wasn't that worried about the shooting (17.2% from 3 point range, yes that is not a typo).

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Junior Joey Dorsey led seven Tigers in double figures with a game-high 22 points to lift No. 14-ranked Memphis to a 113-63 victory over LeMoyne-Owen in exhibition play Thursday at FedExForum. Taurean Moy led the Magicians with a team-best 20 points.

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. Memphis netted its first 10 points on three dunks and two layups. LeMoyne-Owen cut the Tiger lead to 10-5 on a Moy trey at the 17:16 mark, but that was as close as the Magicians would get the remainder of the game.

From that point, Memphis went on a 17-6 run to increase its advantage to 27-11 with 11:35 left. The Tigers held a 59-34 lead at intermission.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Memphis opened with a 20-0 run after halftime. Dorsey and Robert Dozier paced the spurt with four points apiece. The Tigers then cruised to the 113-63 win.

Other Tigers in double figures were Dozier with 14 points, Antonio Anderson with 12 points, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Jeremy Hunt with 11 points and Tre'Von Willis and Andre Allen with 10 points. Dozier led Memphis with nine rebounds, while Dorsey, Douglas-Roberts and Hunt each grabbed seven boards. Anderson and Douglas-Roberts each had six assists.

Cedric Walker was the Magicians' only other double figure scorer with 16 points. Shan Mann led LeMoyne-Owen with nine rebounds and Greg Hill dished out five assists.

The Tiger defense forced 33 Magician turnovers and held LeMoyne-Owen to 31.4 percent shooting from the field.

Memphis returns to exhibition play Monday, Nov. 6 when it hosts Christian Brothers at 7 p.m. at FedExForum. The Tigers open regular season action Nov. 16 when they host Jackson State at 7 p.m.
