Chicago Tribune Report on Derrick Rose

Chicago Tribune Report On Derrick Rose

Prize high school basketball recruit Derrick Rose is set to choose between Memphis, Indiana and Illinois at a 7 p.m. news conference Saturday, which will be followed by a $15-a-head party at a South Side banquet hall.

As for the imminent news, Rose has offered little to tip his hand as to a preference. Memphis still would seem the best bet, but what about the 11th-hour visit to Illinois last weekend and the hugs all around when Rose left? Or the decision of Rose friend and summer running mate Eric Gordon to attend Indiana?

The explosive 6-foot-3-inch Rose is rated No. 3 nationally by rivals.com and No. 6 by scout.com in the Class of '07. His brother/recruiting adviser Reggie has been open in saying college likely will provide a short layover before an NBA departure. Still, chances are the school that wins his services won't mind.

In addition, Rose's Simeon and AAU teammates Tim Flowers and Kevin Johnson are expected to announce their college choices at the same news conference. Both are considered mid-major Division I-A prospects.
