Key RPI Games for C-USA That Affect Memphis

In case your wondering there are only four more games that C-USA members play outside of conference for the remainder of the season.

This is signficant because games in conference are basically a zero-sum game for Memphis. For instance if Rice beats Tulane and the Tigers play each once then it is a non-event for the Tigers.

The best Memphis can hope for is for the C-USA teams they play twice, UAB, Houston, S.Miss and SMU to win more than they lose.

Anyway, keep an eye on these games for RPI effect for Memphis.

Jan 24 Marshall vs. West Virginia (#36) on Neutral court in Charleston
Jan 29 Houston vs. St. Louis (#90) in Houston
Feb 14 Houston vs. South Alabama (#143) in Houston
Feb 17 Memphis vs. Gonzaga (#47) in Spokane

1-game at a time. Coach Cal is smart, of course he knows 16-0 is possible, but not if you start thinking you should go 16-0. Cal wants his guys to treat each opponent seriously so he will hype them up.

If you're a tiger fan what you want to see is improvement each month. Can they be better in January than December, better in Feb than Jan, then better in March than Feb. If they go 16-0 or 14-2 it really doesn't matter much. Could be the difference between a 4 and 6 seed which may or may not mean anything depending on matchups.

I am interested to see how we play against Houston tomorrow. Can we play another full 40 minutes like that or was it an abberation?

It will be interesting to see if Cincy was a fluke or if Memphis really has turned the corner (so to speak).

Of course, really only three players had great games (Kemp, Hunt and Dozier). The rest of th team was average at best.

Memphis should never lose if they outrebound their opponent and shoot 40% from 3 point range.
