Memphis rises to seventh in Top 25
February 19, 2007
The University of Memphis men's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the Associated Press men's basketball Top 25 released this afternoon.
The Tigers (23-3) got their toughest test of the season Saturday at Gonzaga, where they managed to pull out a 78-77 overtime win. The win was their 15th straight, which is the longest current streak in the nation.
The U of M moved ahead of Texas A&M (22-4), which fell from No. 6 to No. 8 after a loss to Texas Tech. Coach John Calipari's club also jumped Pittsburgh (23-4), which fell from seventh to 10th, but the Tigers were passed by Kansas (23-4), even though the Jayhawks' two wins last week were over Big 12 lightweights Colorado and Nebraska.
The Tigers return to action Thursday with a 6 p.m. Conference USA game against Rice at FedExForum. They'll wrap up their regular-season home schedule Sunday afternoon against Houston.
