The University of Tulsa stayed close for most of the night but faded in the final minutes of a 56-41 loss to top-ranked Memphis in a men's college basketball game at the Reynolds Center.
A sellout crowd of 8,475 saw the Hurricane challenge the undeated Tigers for the game's first 30 minutes. TU trailed by four at halftime, and the Golden Hurricane still had upset hopes after Glenn Andrews' 3-pointer with nine minutes left. Andrews' shot pulled TU within 40-36.
But Memphis pulled away from there and ended Wednesday night's game on a 16-5 run.
Memphis (18-0 overall, 5-0 in C-USA) was led by Chris Douglas-Roberts' 20 points. Derrick Rose and Shawn Taggart added 14 points each for the Tigers, who moved up to No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings on Monday.
Tulsa, which trailed 28-24 at halftime, was paced by Calvin Walls' 12 points. The Hurricane only scored 17 points after intermission.
The Hurricane (9-7, 1-3) resumes play on Saturday with a road trip to UTEP. Game time is 8:35 p.m.
