GIVING KANSAS THE EDGE
Jan 21, 2008 | 11:57AM | report this I’ve already received a plethora of negative feedback regarding my thoughts Saturday that Kansas should be No. 1 in the country.
It’s not that I feel that Memphis isn’t worthy at all of the top ranking. I just feel that the Jayhawks are the more dangerous team and give them the slight edge.
I’m not alone, either. USC coach Tim Floyd has faced – and lost to – both clubs.
"UCLA and Kansas are the two best teams in the country,” Floyd said. “Kansas shoots it a little better than Memphis and they have more depth on the frontline.”
My take is that Kansas has more guys that can hurt you, is more effective defensively – and also is a better perimeter scoring team than Memphis.
Chris Douglas Roberts is shooting the ball extremely well from three-point range, but let’s face it: He’s not as good of a shooter as the numbers indicate.
Mario Chalmers is the only shooter on either team who can consistently make shots from long distance.
The Jayhawks don’t have a Joey Dorsey, but Sasha Kaun has been terrific defensively coming off the bench – and Darnell Jackson has made a dramatic improvement this season.
