Memphis cruises past Marshall to improve to 15-0

Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Robert Dozier scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead second-ranked Memphis past Marshall, 68-45, at Cam Henderson Center.

Derrick Rose finished with a team-high 19 points for Memphis (15-0, 2-0 C- USA), which has now defeated Marshall five consecutive times. Joey Dorsey had 11 points and 12 boards for the Tigers, who have won 14 games by double- figures this year.

Markel Humphrey and Mark Dorris each scored 12 for the Thundering Herd (9-5, 1-1), who had a three-game win streak snapped.

Ahead 34-27 coming out of halftime, Memphis went on a 13-3 run to take control of the game. Dozier had a trio of layups and a jumper, and Rose capped it with a basket with 12:33 left, putting the Tigers up 47-30.

It was more than enough of a lead for Memphis, as Marshall didn't get closer than 15. The Tigers cruised, and stretched their margin to 20 with 2:40 left when Dozier made a pair of free throws to make it 64-44.

Memphis reached its first double-digit lead midway through the first half, after Dorsey capped a 13-4 run with a dunk to put the Tigers ahead 21-11. Memphis extended its lead when Chris Douglas-Roberts hit a three, and Dorsey made a free throw for a 28-13 edge.

But Marshall responded with a 12-2 run shortly thereafter, in which Dorris had seven points, and Darryl Merthie capped it with a pair of free throws with 17 seconds on the clock to bring the Herd within 32-27. Rose scored one last basket before halftime to send Memphis into the break ahead by seven.

Game Notes

Memphis shot 45.2 percent for the game, while Marshall shot 34 percent...The Tigers got to the line just nine times, making seven...The Herd made 10-of-20 from the free-throw line...Marshall committed 20 turnovers, leading to 19 Memphis points...Memphis committed 15 turnovers, leading to seven Marshall points.
