Wesley Witherspoon needed extra time to decide. On Thursday, the 6-foot-7 senior stepped up and announced his decision to attend Memphis.
One of the last true high-major prospects is off the board. Wesley Witherspoon, Scout.com’s No. 56 prospect in the Class of 2008 is headed to Memphis. The Lilburn (Ga.) Berkmar product selected the Memphis Tigers over Texas and Virginia Thursday afternoon.
“I wanted to make sure it was the right fit and I was the right guy for their program,” Witherspoon said.
Witherspoon’s decision means only one other member of the Top 25 small forwards is on the board. Devin Ebanks is the sole remaining major impact wing player.
Witherspoon told Scout.com that it wasn’t until last night that he was able to settle in and reach his final decision. The process, by account, was long. For the colleges needing his services, surely they’d all agree if they could.
“It was a family decision. We got together and decided that Memphis was the best place for me. It was a toss up for a minute.”
