TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Tulsa extended the contract of coach Doug Wojcik by two years Thursday after he pulled the program out of a run of three straight losing seasons.

The extension will keep Wojcik with the Golden Hurricane for six more seasons, through the 2012-2013 season.

"I'm excited to receive a contract extension. It shows great commitment toward my staff and I," Wojcik said in a statement. "There are so many positive things taking place at TU and in the community that make it such an exciting time for my family and I to be in Tulsa."

Wojcik, who in 2005 took over a team that had back-to-back nine-wins seasons, has a 31-28 record in two seasons at Tulsa. Terms of his contract were not disclosed.

"Doug has done a tremendous job in his two seasons by inheriting a team with back-to-back nine win seasons and leading us to 20 victories in just his second year," athletic director Bubba Cunningham said. "We believe that Doug has injected into our program a passion for returning Golden Hurricane basketball to greatness and where Tulsa fans are used to seeing it."

Tulsa went to the NCAA tournament eight times between 1994 and 2003, advancing as far as the round of eight in 2000 under current Kansas coach Bill Self. The Golden Hurricane also won the NIT the following year.

That run of success faded in the final two years under John Phillips, and Wojcik was brought in after Alvin "Pooh" Williamson had replaced Phillips on an interim basis.

Wojcik, a former assistant to Tom Izzo at Michigan State, quickly revamped the roster, bringing in 13 of his own players prior to the start of his second season at Tulsa. The result was a 20-11 record last season.
