The level of competition for OU men's basketball team is about to increase greatly. After breezing through the exhibition games and then their first three regular season opponents OU will get on a plane and head to New York to face #3 Memphis in the semifinals of the 2K College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.
Monday night gave OU a final opportunity to fine tune their fundamentals before playing Memphis and while a 99-59 final score against Alcorn State may have been impressive that stats that will make the most difference against the Memphis Tigers are turnovers, rebounds, free throw and field goal percentage.
Against the Braves on Monday night OU turned the ball over 15 times, won in rebounding 43-27, shot 75% from the charity stripe and 53% from the floor. Certainly there is room for improvement in those stats and Oklahoma's young team may not yet be up to the challenge of playing with a team like Memphis but this Sooner team may surprise some people also because of their athleticism.
Sooner Studs
Longar Longar 20 points, 8 rebounds
Blake Griffin 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists
Tony Crocker 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists
Omar Leary 11 points, 3 assists
Unsung Hero
David Godbold 4 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists
Sub Par Performance
Cade Davis 4 points on 1-6 shooting
