After missing on the nation's top-rated player, Duke rebounded and got a commitment from the second highest-rated senior still on the board — shooting guard Elliott Williams.
According to numerous industry sources, Williams contacted Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski and the other coaches — Virginia's Dave Leitao, Tennessee's Bruce Pearl and Memphis' John Calipari — on Wednesday night with his decision.
Williams, who attends St. George's in Collierville, Tenn., is expected to make an official announcement on Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-4, 170-pound Williams is an athletic wing whom the Duke staff has compared to former Blue Devils player and current assistant coach Johnny Dawkins.
Williams is ranked as the No. 14 player in the country by Scout.com, and the only uncommitted player ranked higher is Tyreke Evans (Scout.com, No. 4), who is considering Memphis, Louisville, Villanova, Texas and UConn.
Williams' commitment comes after Duke missed out on top-ranked Greg Monroe, who decided earlier this month to attend Georgetown.
Williams joins Reno High (Nev.) recruit Olek Czyz, an athletic 6-foot-7 power forward, in Duke's two-man recruiting class.
